The Best Mounjaro Tracker Apps
Mounjaro is tirzepatide licensed for type 2 diabetes, which changes what you should be logging: glucose sits alongside dose, other diabetes medications need watching, and the oral contraceptive clock resets at every dose increase.
A drug-specific companion to my general rubric for GLP-1 apps. Same seven criteria; the weighting changes because Mounjaro’s indication brings a second set of numbers with it.
What makes Mounjaro different to track
Glucose is part of the picture. Mounjaro is tirzepatide licensed for type 2 diabetes. That means the number your clinician is watching most closely is probably HbA1c, not your weight, and daily glucose belongs in the same log as your dose rather than in a separate app you open half as often.
Your other diabetes medications matter more than the Mounjaro does. Tirzepatide’s insulin effect is glucose-dependent, so it rarely causes lows by itself. Add insulin or a sulfonylurea, though, and eating substantially less becomes the standard route to hypoglycemia — the risk comes from the other drug, unmasked. Those doses usually need reducing, and that is an active management decision made from data.
The oral contraceptive clock resets at every escalation. This is the single most under-communicated fact about tirzepatide. It reduces absorption of combined oral contraceptives enough to be on the label, with the guidance being a non-oral or backup method for 4 weeks after starting and 4 weeks after each dose increase. A rolling window that restarts every time you titrate is exactly the kind of date people lose, and the consequence of losing it is not trivial. I have written about this in more detail.
A switch to Zepbound is not a treatment change. Same molecule, different label. Formulary changes push people between them constantly. Whatever you track with should let your dose history run continuously across that, because a gap in the record looks like a gap in treatment later.
The ranking
1. Zenday App
Best overall. (zenday.health)
The one I use — see the disclosure at the top.
It ranks first because the injection is the organising event, so dose, symptoms, food and measurements sit on one timeline and the patterns emerge without you hunting for them. On Mounjaro that matters twice over: your post-injection side-effect pattern becomes visible within about two dose cycles, and dose-escalation dates are captured — which is what the contraceptive window depends on.
Nutrition is protein-first against a target rather than calorie-first, which is the right orientation on any drug that halves appetite and the wrong one on every general tracker.
Where it falls short. Web-based, deliberately — no app-store trail, no home-screen icon — which costs native widgets and platform integration. Food database smaller than MyFitnessPal’s. And if glucose is the number that dominates your care, you will likely want a dedicated diabetes tool alongside it.
2. Shotsy
Best focused dose log.
Clean, fast injection logging: dose, date, site, weight, reminders. If your main risk is losing the thread — which for a weekly injection with periodic escalations is a real risk — a log you will actually open beats a sophisticated one you abandon.
Where it falls short. Records rather than interprets. No glucose logic, thin nutrition, no protein target.
3. mySugr
Best for the diabetes half.
A well-established diabetes logbook, good at glucose, carbohydrate and insulin logging, and it works with meters. If your endocrinologist’s question at every visit is about your glucose patterns, this is the tool built for answering it.
Where it falls short. It knows diabetes, not GLP-1 titration. No side-effect pattern logic, no protein target, no concept of a dose escalation and therefore no contraceptive window. Most people using it for Mounjaro run it alongside something else.
4. Meagain
Best for the adjustment.
The reflective end — mood, motivation, and the non-numeric parts of a body changing quickly. Worth taking seriously: people abandon treatment over how it feels far more often than over a lab result.
Where it falls short. Light clinically. No protein average, no dose-linked symptom analysis.
5. MyFitnessPal
Best food database, wrong premise.
Unmatched barcode coverage. But it is built around eating less being the hard part, which on tirzepatide it is not, and it has no concept of an injection. Used unmodified it points the wrong way.
If you use it: set a protein goal in grams and watch that instead of calories.

What to log on Mounjaro
- Dose and date — including every escalation date, which the contraceptive window depends on
- Glucose, if this is for type 2 diabetes, in the same place as everything else
- Side effects by day, so your post-injection pattern is visible before the next increase
- Protein, against roughly 1.2–1.6 g per kg of body weight per day
No app prescribes, adjusts, or supervises. What a good record does is make the next appointment a decision rather than a guess — and on a drug where your insulin dose may need to come down, that is worth more than it sounds.
Baseline figures for the log: tirzepatide’s half-life of about 5 days, a 4 week escalation interval, a starting dose of 2.5 mg, and protein at 1.2–1.6 g/kg a day. Two Mounjaro-specific fields are worth adding. Glucose, if you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside it, because eating far less on those agents is the standard route to a low. And contraception, because tirzepatide labelling advises oral contraceptives may be less effective for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose increase — the detail is in GLP-1s and your other medications.
Questions I get about this month
- What is the best app to track Mounjaro?
- For most people a purpose-built GLP-1 companion beats a general food tracker, because on this medication the difficult parts are dose consistency, protein intake and side-effect patterns rather than eating less. The Zenday App ranks first for connecting injection day to symptoms and intake. If you are taking Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and glucose is your primary measure, mySugr is worth running alongside it, and Shotsy is the leanest option for dose logging alone.
- Does Mounjaro affect birth control?
- Yes, if the contraceptive is oral. Tirzepatide delays gastric emptying enough to reduce absorption of combined oral contraceptives, and the labelling advises using a non-oral method or adding a barrier method for four weeks after starting and for four weeks after each dose increase. Because that window resets at every escalation, it is a rolling date that is easy to lose track of and worth logging explicitly.
- Should I track blood sugar on Mounjaro?
- If you are taking it for type 2 diabetes, yes, and alongside dose rather than separately. Tirzepatide's effect on insulin secretion is glucose-dependent, so it seldom causes hypoglycemia on its own. The risk rises substantially if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, because eating much less while on those agents is the standard route to a low. Log glucose with dose and intake, and raise dose adjustment of the other agents with your prescriber.
- Is Mounjaro the same as Zepbound?
- Both are tirzepatide. Mounjaro is licensed for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight management and for obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. Same molecule, same weekly injection, different indication, labelling and often very different insurance treatment. If you move between them, your treatment has not changed even though the box has, so keep the dose history continuous in whatever you track with.
